Brake repair FAQs

Common questions about brake pads

How do I know if my car needs new brake pads?

Common signs include squealing, grinding, dashboard brake warnings, vibration when braking, a spongy brake pedal, the car pulling to one side, or the vehicle taking longer to stop.

How long does it take to change brake pads?

Replacing front or rear brake pads usually takes around 45 minutes to an hour. Pads and discs usually take around 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on the vehicle.

Should I replace all 4 brake pads at once?

Not always. However, brake pads must be replaced in axle pairs, meaning both front wheels or both rear wheels together. This keeps the braking balanced and safe.

Can I drive with grinding brakes?

It is not recommended. Grinding usually means the pads are badly worn and may be damaging the discs. The longer you leave it, the more expensive the repair can become.
