Creating a Watchdog for Electric Vehicles

Creating a Watchdog for Electric Vehicles | Paisley Autocare

Stuart Ross |

The car industry is looking to create a watchdog for electric cars. This would be a team of experts that would assess the environmental impact of all new electric vehicles and provide some guidelines as to how they should be designed in order to minimize their carbon footprint. It's hoped that this will lead to increased investment into research into eco-friendly fuels and reduce some of the skepticism surrounding this clean energy source.

The electric car industry is growing quickly, and with that comes the need for a watchdog to ensure that electric cars are as environmentally friendly as possible.

Electric cars have many benefits over traditional gas-powered ones, but there is a concern that the switch to electric could lead to an increase in emissions. A watchdog would be a team of experts who would assess the environmental impact of all new electric vehicles and provide guidelines as to how they should be designed in order to minimize their carbon footprint. This would help to reassure people that electricity is a clean energy source and encourage investment in research into eco-friendly fuels.

However, electric cars are still relatively new compared to traditional ones so it remains difficult for these vehicles to compete with those at the lower end of the market on price alone. Introducing a watchdog could encourage more investment into research into eco-friendly fuels and improve environmental performance, but electric cars would still lose out to their traditional counterparts when it comes to efficiency and cost. McKinsey & Company is currently working with electric car industry trade groups on how best to establish such a watchdog, but has not yet put forward any formal recommendations.

A new electric vehicle supervisory body could help people become more confident that electric cars are an environmentally friendly technology and encourage investment into research into eco-friendly fuels. Consulting firm McKinsey Company has proposed creating this electric vehicle supervisory body and is currently consulting with electric car industry trade groups on how best to establish such a watchdog. However, electric cars would still lose out to their traditional counterparts when it comes to efficiency and cost.
