The design company was founded by Ferdinand Alexander "Butzi" Porsche, grandson of car designer Ferdinand Porsche. The company specializes in developing ultra-luxury vehicles with a particular focus on limited editions and one-off cars. These include some of the most expensive cars ever built such as the Mercedes Benz SLS AMG Black Series which sold at auction for $1 million US dollars to an unknown buyer. They also have designed racing yachts that have won prestigious races including America's Cup yacht races where they were awarded best boat design.

Porsche Design is unique in the automotive engineering world as they are the only company to have their own design department that is separate from the main car manufacturing company. This allows for a greater level of specialization and creativity as the design team is not restricted by the demands of mass production.

The Porsche Vision Gran Turismo concept was designed by Porsche Design Group and will be released to the public exclusively for the Playstation 3 racing game, Gran Turismo 6. The car is a one-off concept that was unveiled at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show.

The design of the car features a streamlined exterior with a low profile roofline, aerodynamic wheel arches and carbon fibre all around. It is powered by a hybrid system with four electric motors and an engine that emits less than 250 g of CO2 per kilometre. The front wheels are driven by two 60 kW electric motors, while the rear is propelled by two 100 kW electric motors making it capable of reaching speeds of up to 300 km/h. It weighs in at just 1,280 kg, making it one of the lightest supercars ever built.

The Vision Gran Turismo is not just a pretty face it features some of the latest in automotive technology. The car has an all-new infotainment system that allows drivers to control all the functions of the car using voice commands. It also features a holographic display with an augmented reality navigation system. The car also has the latest collision avoidance system with sensors placed all around the body for added safety.

The Porsche Design team worked closely with engineers from Polyphony Digital Inc., Kazunori Yamauchi and Eiichi Tokumoto, to make sure that they were designing a car that would be suitable for the latest trends in motorsport. The goal was to create a car that had more stability and needed less braking while being powerful enough to compete against other fast cars from around the world.
