The Race to Train Mechanics for this New Technology is on

The Race to Train Mechanics for this New Technology is on | Paisley Autocare

Stuart Ross |

The electric vehicle revolution is already happening. Electric cars are becoming more and more popular, but there’s a shortage of mechanics to service them because they’re so new! The race to train these mechanics is on and we need to start doing something about it before electric car drivers can’t find anyone to fix their vehicles.

The problem isn't that people don't want to learn how or aren't interested in fixing the cars. It's just that the technology is so new that there are no training programs available for mechanics in traditional colleges. With this in mind, some private companies have stepped up, like Tesla Motors who has partnered with colleges like Purdue University and Kettering University (both located in Michigan) where students will learn about electric vehicles and how to fix them.

This is an important issue because the more people who are trained in repairing electric cars, the less likely it is that drivers will be left stranded on the side of the road. Electric cars have a lot of potentials to help reduce our dependence on fossil fuels, but this can only happen if we have mechanics who are trained to work on them. So, let's all do our part in making sure that this new technology is embraced and supported by everyone, including those who maintain and repair our vehicles.
